Magazines

What video game magazines does everyone here subscribe to? I know that there is a wide variety, and its sometimes hard to choose which one you'll spend the 20 dollar subscription on. Or if you don't subscribe, then what video game magazines do you regularly read?

Personally, I read EGM. It has the best reviewers, layout, and quick wit of any magazine I've ever had the pleasure (or in Nintendo Power's case, displeasure) of reading. That's really sad though. I subscribed to Nintendo Power for a good 6 years.

Oh well. Now you post in this dead forum.

I don't subscribe to any mags, but the two mags I like to read a lot of are PSM2 (A PS2 mag) and Gamesmaster, a general gaming mag which aint that great, but it's quite cheap, so it's all good.

Game Informer is my current favorite.

Because GameInformer doesn't limit itself to a single platform, they actually have comparisons of games to any other games in the genre. So MGS: 2 is compared to Thief for the PC.

As someone who owns more than one console (PSX, GCN, GBA, Computer) it's useful to have a comparison across the board so I don't keep on wasting money on games that, while good for their system, are mediocre by everyone else's standards.

My younger brother is the one who ordered the subscription, and I was initially against it, believing that game magazines were pointless. But after a while, the reviewers at Game Informer won me over as I saw them judge games by my criteria, meaning that the games they didn't like I usually wouldn't like either.

Content wise, Game Informer is very simple. They don't have the "SPECIAL TIPS and TRICKS" junk Nintendo Power has. They keep the scope of the content focused on the industry as a hole, never really devoting an article to a single game unless it's an interview of the makers.
___________________________________

Although I use Game Informer's reviews, I don't really use it for news and such, for that I go to IGN.com.

But as it's not a magazine, I won't talk about it here.

I used to subscribe to Nintendo Power, but that was back when they actually had information on games I wanted to know about. These days that mag is like smoke and mirrors; they never tell you anything definitie until it's already happened. That and its complete transition into a kid's gaming mag. It's a waste of my time and money to keep renewing it.

Right now I subscribe to EGM, and I find it to be an excellent mag. They have some of the best articles I've ever seen, and their reviews are (mostly) fair and as unbiased as possible. (Just look at the shit they got for not giving LoZ:WW a perfect score. THAT's dedication.) Plus it's geared more toward older gamers, so they aren't afriad to be blunt and accurate with the readers. Overall I just think it's an awesome mag.

I also have a subscription to CGW. Honestly, I don't know how the hell I got the subscription, but whatever, it's a mag so I'll read it. It's good too since EGM doesn't cover comp games, so now I can find out the latest on World of WarCraft, hehe.

Gamepro and PSM are the two mags I'm subscribed to. PSM because of my PS2 fan boyism, and Gamepro just... because.

So yeah.. there you have it.

PSM2 because i own a ps2 and play that mostly so obviously want info on that more then any other platform

and

GAMEStm which i think is only available here in Australia but it is a multi-platform magazine so i can get a bit of info for everything.

I know it's been awile since the last post but I just saw this and it was still on the first page.

Well I subscribe to Game Informer. I bought a Game Stop card for about 6-10 dollors and I got 12 months of Game Informer. I like this better than the on at EB Games. That one is just not as good to me.

10$ for 10 months. 1$ an issue.

Yeah, I got the same deal as you guys, thew Gamestop card so I get GI every month. But actually I like EGM and PSM more, I don't know I'm more an PS2 fan so I check all that is PS2, and other things too but mostly PS2. I also heard that XBN and GMR(two magazines that were released for a couple of months) were taken off the shelves for good, it seems that they weren't getting any money from them, and they were ok but there are better and more popular magazines out there.

I was at one point subscribed to psm, but I found it to be a horribly biased magazine with no redeeming points. Now I subscribe to Nintendo Power, which, while not much better in the editorial section than psm, I find that I like it's good amount of screenshots and extras. Plus, the strategy guide I got for free with it basically covered the cost for the year's subscription.

I subscribed to the x-box magazine yesterday. My friend said it's good and that you get free stuff with it some times.

I don't know if this thread is just for game magazines, but I also am getting Newtype magazines. It's an anime maganzine. I really like it and the just started putting anime dvd samples in it.
