You make a poll and don't even vote on it yourself, nor explain your reasons as to what you like? Eesh.
I happen to like Japanese anime better, but there are few american anime I like. That is, if Teen Titans is american. =P Justice League Unlimited is one I like, but those two are about it from the american side.

American Anime? What the hell is that? Surely there are some American cartoons inspired by Anime, but I wouldn't call it Anime.
On topic: I infinitely prefer Anime to regular cartoons because 1) It's drawn better, 2) The animation is much more fluid, and 3) in more cases than not, Anime will have far deeper/more meaningful storylines and characters that have an almost real life personality. Most regular cartoons are bland in my opinion, though I think the Boondocks is one of the funniest franchises EVAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!!!!!1!!!ONEone

American Anime? Like cartoons right? Well, I must say, the Marvel releases were rather nice. I'm talking about Spiderman and uhm...X-men and uhm....you know...whatever.
I liked the Cartoon Network cartoons very much: Dexter's Lab, Cow and Chicken, Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Flintstones, Jetsons etc. Those made me laugh my ass off. Also, Looney Tunes, Disney and Tom & Jerry cartoons can also be seen as 'Anime', right? They were all nice, but fall easily to the Japanese Anime. Anime has a lot more storyline, and can more be seen as actual series or movies than just entertainment. So, that's basicly why I chose Japanese Anime over American cartoons. American cartoons are for laughing, Japanese Anime is a tad more serious. At least, from my point of view. |

I say Japanese simply because most of the anime I watch is japanese in origin. I don't think I know all that much about american anime though. Come to think of it, I don't know that much about anime period....
But I've also found out from watching subtitled versions of Gungrave and Trigun(and the subbed AC movie, although it's not anime) that I generally prefer hearing the original japanese voices. My only disappointment though is when the subtitles and what is said in the English speaking versions doesn't match up. I've noticed many instances in Trigun where things the characters speak in the English version are not written in the subtitles. Maybe I'm watching badly subbed versions though.

I agree. I liked Teen Titans and the marvel releases. (In fact, Teen Titans IS a Marvel release!) I think part of the reason is that American cartoons are usually crappy is because they have had less time to adapt to new tastes and the general attitude that cartoons are for kids. I had to forcibly steer my aunt clear of Those Who Hunt Elves and X the Movie in leiu of titles such as Sailormoon and Cardcaptors.
As for an American "Anime", I would say watch Gargoyles. It is not in the Anime visual form, but it is the closest thing to it. It was far ahead of it's time. Just search for Gargoyles on the net and look for what you find. For independents, look up Newgrounds and go to Broken Saints or the serious shorts. They have quite the show!

Japanese anime rock because of their good imagination
and weird thinking that makes the anime interesting.

Anime is just a french word for animation, that has been used to label Japanese Animation, probably because it is shorter than saying it. And we do not want to confuse people by saying cartoons because it is too broad a term. I have never heard American Animation refered to as American Anime.
However, to answer the question I prefer Japanese Animation, much like someone else said it is serious while American Animation is for comedy and in my opinion very terrible at comedy. So I only watch Japanese Animation, I do not even look at American stuff anymore makes my eyes roll it is so stupid. But get my family to see that Japanese Animation is not like cartoons they are used it is like pulling teeth. They will never understand and never know the pleasure of real animation entertainment. Even if the animation is done poorly, at least there is a plot to follow in Anime, I like to think and being intrigued, and it provides that. Something I have yet to find in American Animation.

Woops on Teen Titans. Not all American animations are alike. I do still think that attitude is mostly what keeps the American (Me being an American) market from producing anything of lasting value. They are getting better-just look at Boondocks and some of the stuff that plays on cable at night.
If you want to look for comedy, look for Happy Treehouse Friends and Friends. It's sick and twisted and definently not for kiddies, but it's hilarious at times. Watching it on G4 will also give you other funny, twisted animated shorts. (My fiancee likes Hard Drinkin' Lincoln.) Quick note on Boondocks: according to an article in a newspaper I read, the producer went for the Anime look.
