I'm hoping that one day these NGE topics will burn in hell... Oh no! It's a NGE hater! But seriously.. I still haven't figured out why people like this series.

I guess the biggest turn-off is the fact that it pretends to be a mech anime but it isn't one. And of course the fact that the main character fits the "I'm a big loser pansy but I'm going to save the world!" cliche all-too-well.

Heh, no issues Merlin, I'll admit, it does seem a little...well, yeah, okay Shinji's more of a wuss than I am. I'd at least be hitting on Asuka...granted she's got one hell of a temper, but that makes it fun. ^^

And the Mech thing...yeah, they're just a wee bit too agile to truly be considered Mechs I think. The organic side of them also kinda disqualifies them I should think.

Well, as tempted as I am to fly to Evangelion's defense, I don't think anyone wants to hear my ranting and raving at the moment.

Of note, though, is that Cartoon Network is actually going to be airing Evangelion on television in its entirety! ADV announced this bit of information at Anime Expo today, and that excited me greatly. Granted, it's probably going to be significantly edited (if the digitally-added bathing suits added to the first two episodes a year or two back are any indication), but it'll be interesting (1)To see how they handle some of the situations presented and (2)to see Evangelion on network cable in general, because I never expected to see this happen, let alone on CN. They haven't said when this will happen, I'm hoping they elaborate in the near future. At the very least, this should expose a whole bunch of people to one of the best shows ever created, so I'll be happy even if it is butchered (though I'd be happier if it wasn't).

I've seen one episode, and it was okey. I don't know if i'll watch the rest. I'm busy with ONe Piece now, and afterwards i'm thinking of watching GTO.

what the **** is not to like about that??? what else would you have rather seen???

i admit the first time i saw EoE i was thoroughly confused, but the visual imagery was still powerful enough to put tears in my eyes. after seeing a few more times (and getting a little history lesson from my Eva-obsessed friend) it all just clicked into place. it was like a beautiful revelation. not to mention

yes, i agree with KOS that Eva, Berserk, and FLCL are the untouchables of anime.

EDIT: anyone that thinks EoE 'comes out of nowhere' needs to watch the entire series again.

kaji is transporting the embryonic adam in asuka's first episode, the eva goes berserk and reveals its true form in like the second episode, and if you REALLY pay attention you'll see that gendo was pulling the strings the whole time. (think the director's cut of one of the later episodes actually shows the embryonic adam implanted in his hand)

eva reveals itself more and more on each pass - and the EoE (which was only done because the japanese public didn't understand the end of the series and were pissed off) is like a massive orgasm of exposition.

Call me late on the bandwagon, but finally getting a chance to see it, I'm not all that impressed. The dub work is nice (the scenes are still heartfelt), but it just didn't grab me, most of the time I was thinking, "Man so all this is is about some whiny emo, "doesnt-want-to-fight" kid saving the world?" Yes I KNOW there are deeper issues than that, you don't need to remind me or anything, that's just my initial reaction to a lot of the scenes.

I don't mean to offend any of the fans here, and maybe I just got into it too late, but I just didn't care for it. Certainly not TERRIBLE, but I liked FMA better. NGE is like the FFVII of Anime. When it came out it was amazing, people still love it, but some people both then and now, might play it and not care for it. I'm in that category.

I think the show is great. I saw the first episode and was a little confused at first but I really got into the show. The characters are awesome. Misato is my favourite. It even has humorous scenes in it which makes it even better. I haven't seen the whole series, but from what I have seen...I love it! Some of the characters got on my nerves at times but besides that, I liked it. The storyline was interesting as well.
