Well, FFT is basically a fantasy-themed board game, and we know that there are a lot of online board game sites that do well (*cough*chess). I don't know about the whole co-op aspect, but a competitive battle - my team vs. yours - would definitely have potential. You'd have to make a few changes though:
1) Either do away with levelling or else make it come at a price. You shouldn't be able to beat me just because you've been playing the game longer. I'd advocate just removing it entirely, but you could do it like in Etherlords where you have a set amount of resources to use to build your team, and levels (and JP and stuff) cost you resources just like weapons and items.
2) Seriously scale down healing. With a decent set of healers on each team, battles would last practically indefinitely. I'd say that Chemists should only be allowed to carry a very small set of items into battle (3 phoenix downs, 3 hi-potions, 1 x-potion, etc) and white magic should cost much more or be less accurate or weaker or something else to make it less appealing.
3) Balance the classes. I won't go into details about the balance issues in this game - I've done that elsewhere - but a party with Monks and Time Mages would own one with Squires and Oracles, and that's just not right.
There might need to be some other changes as well - more jobs/abilities, as the existing ones might get old with so many players - but these are the big ones.
