I rarely get sick. Maybe once every 18 months. When I do, it's usually for a day, no more than 48 hours. I'm not lying. While some people will be sick with the flu for a week, I'm done in 30 hours. Here's why:
Most people take medicine when they're sick to "feel" better. That's the thing. They just "feel" better., not actually get better. Because many medicines simply temporarily "relieve" symptoms like coughing, runny nose, sneezing, fever, etc. But these symptoms, as annoying as they are, are necessary. They are actually symptoms of your body trying to fight off the illness. They're not directly caused by the germs or viruses. They're caused by your body's response to the invaders. You have runny nose because your breathing passageways are coated with even more mucus to trap germs from entering your lungs. You cough to expel germs from your throat and clear your throat of mucous and phlegm. You have a fever to weaken the germs. These are necessary purging protocols your body uses. But if you take medicines to "relieve" these necessary symptoms, you are slowing down your body's effort to heal.
Not only that, many people, after "feeling" better continue to go about their regular routine, albeit in a lower effectiveness. This denies your body from conserving energy it needs to fight off the illness. So, this further prolongs their sickness up to a week.
It boggles my mind why people choose to ignore and/or suppress their body's efforts to heal itself. If you feel like crap and can barely do your work, WHY ARE YOU DOING IT?! Why aren't you resting?! Why are you sabotaging your body's effort to get better?
Here's what I do when I'm sick:
Sleep. There's a reason why you get very tired when you are sick. Your body wants to focus on healing and that takes huge amounts of energy. Since you are so tired you lost your appetite, you sleep to conserve energy for use in healing. I not only sleep, I hibernate. For 20 hours. Not only do I conserve energy, I can pretty much sleep through the illness, avoiding the experience of most of the crappy but needed symptoms.
Drink plenty of fluids; preferably water or nutritional fluids such as orange juice for vitamin C, meal replacement supplements fortified with vitamins and minerals, and/or green tea for the decongestant affects of steam as well as it's potent immune system boosting nutrients. Instead of inhibiting your body's healing efforts with medicines, you want to supplement it with the things it needs to do its job.
Pee. Pee a lot. Everytime you get up to drink, pee. Urinating helps flushes the dead germs away.
If you do all of that like I do, you'll significantly speed up recovery time. When you do get better, you will be very hungry!
That's what I do. That's why I only get sick for a day, no more than two days.
