Oy, Odin, don't say that!.
Both my parents died at age 46, my mom had been on a very strict diet since her early twenties due to renal failure.
When I think about them both, I wonder what's the point on taking care of yourself, I mean, my mom still died of her disease, even if she dieted and did everything she had to do, and my dad?, he died on an airplane crash even before he could even begin to think about his health.
But, then, I remember what I'm going through at this moment in my Nutritional Sciences classes, and I realize that it isn't about looking spiffy; it is about life quality, by that, what I mean is that the consequences of obesity are very bad to your body and that ruins your later years pretty bad:
Spoiler:
From nasogastric cateters (that's a tub entering your nose and going all the way to your stomach in order to feed you), waste pouches (connected to your intestines) and other nasty procedures, due to diseases such as nutrition-related disorders that prevent you from using your stomach and or your intestines, to losing your limbs, due to diabetes, to incurable bed sores that go all the way to the bone, due to weight-related inability to move.

And I realize that that extra burger or cookie, or whatever isn't really worth it.
On topic:
People loves to hate the U.S., I see that a lot in the young people my country of origin.
It makes you look as if you are breaking the mold, you are a rebel, you don't fall for the allures of the U.S.!.
But, the minute they get the chance to, either come on vacation, or live in the U.S., they do it in a second flat.
I don't know about americans being arrogant, they all treat me with the utmost respect, and, in the end, the arrogance bit can be applied to the inhabitants of most every nation out there (no, I'm not giving out names) it is all a matter of perspective and of missinformation.
Aren't many europeans patting themselves in the back, because they aren't american?, isn't that arrogant?.
We, the argentines love to think that we are a bit of Europe stuck in south american territory, now, isn't that arrogant, as well?.
I heard from an South African girl, once that they were the best country in the African continent, the rest were just a pile of crap, how about that for arrogance?
The same applies with the overall ignorance, lack of taste or whatever people displays, we are all like that in that respect and we all love to think that the other guys are like that, unlike us, parangons of everything that is great in the human race.
It always bothers me whenever that study that says that americans don't know where many countries are located pops up and everybody rushes to complain about the stupid americans.
As if the rest of the world is populated by aces of geography, please!.
No, as I say, everybody loves to hate the U.S. and it doesn't matter what the country does, it gets lambasted either way.
As I said in another thread, I love it here, I love americans, they are very welcoming, generous people, I'm staying here.
