I have played every final fantasy made, japanesse only included. I can tell you that T/A is not the worst (*cough* Crystal Chronicles!), but by no means the best. If you liked the idea of a tactical game in an FF enviroment, but can overlook the fact that the characters are not seen as heroes, but rather as kids with problems that they must deal with, where the first battle is a snowball fight, where the game designers think you're so stupid you need a tutorial for moving, fighting, and spelling your name, and the overused plot where your best friend turns against you, only that this friend also has issues, and when you 'kill' someone, they don't actually die, and make a pitiful 'ugh' when they fall, then the rest of the game goes smoothly.
hmmmmm..... I now realize that my first paragraph would deter pretty much anyone. Now for the perks. After the hour long opening, the game gets good. The battle system is well made, as is the system for advancing in skills. Some new job classes such as the Assassin and Juggler provide hours of gameplay awesomeness, and the plot gets better and better as you go along. The use of limitations in the game via 'judges' I reccomend, though it will get tedious as they add more and more rules to the game. Also, dialogue in the game is fairly humorous, and NPCs make the game seem alive and you an awesome bounty hunter. While it can never touch the beauty of Tactics, I would recommend T/A to someone who enjoyed 9, X and X-2.
