I once downloaded the original FF1 and could barely beat any monsters. On the GBA, though (That I actually own), I'm on my 2nd playthrough with 1, and lost in Pandemonium with 2.
Reasons why the GBA version of 1 pwns the others:
1: It's easier
2: Some elements of gameplay are the same, where some (Name Changes (Monsters & Magic) and MP system) are modernized
3: New Dungeons and Items.
