ff9 is one of the FFs that is very strong in characters.
I think some people just dont like it that theres not enough mistery/history around every character. In ff7 for instance, it takes a long time before you find out about the Ancients and even the past of your main character (Cloud Strife),SOLDIER, Sephiroth...
In ff9, the life of every character is sometimes to obvious and too fast explained.
But in general the characters are very good and original...
