It's definately a good game. I'd agree with you that it's the best, but unfortunately, those who feel this way aren't as numerous as the hordes of rabid FF7 fanboys (and fangirls). I won't enumerate reasons why FFT is so obviously a better game (ducks thrown tomatoes - that was a joke!) but I think SquarEnix feels that FF7 spinoffs are more marketable at this point than more tactics RPGs. Pity that.

If you liked FFT, try some other games like Front Mission, Bahamut Lagoon (both of those also by Square), and Disgaea. Unfortunately, all of those fall victim to the curse of "entire-team-moves-at-once" that is, in my opinion, the worst idea ever in terms of game balance, as it means that my uberslow Summoner for some strange reason gets to move before your uberfast Ninja - in other words, completely takes the element of speed out of the game and instead gives a huge advantage to whichever team happens to go first.

There's also FFT:Advance. It's no FFT, but it's the only other tactics RPG that I've ever been able to get into (maybe because it's the only other "single-unit-moves-at-once" one I've played?). It's a bit easy and has horrible balance between the jobs, but at least it's nice in spirit.

As far as FFT2... I don't think it's going to be happening anytime soon. Believe me, I want it as much as you do if not more, but I try to be realistic about stuff like this. I sometimes think it'd almost be a better idea to try to make a FFT clone myself that I can then add features to... but that's a bit ambitious for me. Besides, even if I got a working battle system, I have no idea how graphics or anything else work...

If you're interested in this sorta stuff, there's something I've seen called customsrpg (if you wanna check it out, google for it and the webpage should come up). It's a project that is, in theory, designed to be an extensible strategy RPG engine (a la FFT)... but right now it's in its infancy, and there's only one dude working on it so it's unlikely to go that far anytime soon.
