Syn had gathered his supplies and had mounted his horse in the stables.
Aboriortus was a beautiful mare, completely black with silver streaks in her black mane and tail, matching Syn. She was just as mysterious and cold as Syn. Nobody knew what breed of horse she was, or where she came from. She was very strong, stronger than most of the stallions in the stable, and the fastest horse in all of Dragonia. The apprentices dreaded feeding her because she would never let anyone but Syn close to her. Most of the time they had to throw the food in her stall. She had killed two stable masters and four apprentices so far, but the king refused to kill her. She would make the perfect breeder when she became too old for battle. Besides, anyone that dealt with Aboriortus would have to deal with Syn. Seperated, they were impossible to deal with, but together, on the battle field, they were unstoppable. There were even rumors that Syn and his mare shared a strong telepathic link.
Syn stroked the mares neck as he waited for his summoned soldiers to mount.
When they were ready, all four of them stood in a line before Syn.
After briefly examining them and their equipment and mounts, Syn nodded, "You four have been chosen to accompany me to the border between Dragonia and Taren. I'm sure you have all heard the rumors of Taren's coming assault."
The soldiers nodded in response.
"Good," Syn continued, his eyes piercing through all of them, one by one,"Our mission is to scout the border and report any disturbances as quickly as possible."
The mounts shifted eagerly, knowing they were going to get their long desired excecise.
Without another word, Syn rode past his soldiers and towards the city gate. The soldiers followed as they were trained to long ago.
Once past the gate, the soldiers formed an arrowhead formation, Syn at the top.
They rode through a vast farmland, the dirt road lined with crops. The farmers and their families looked up from their work and watched the small group pass.
Some of the children ran after them, waving and cheering even though they had no idea where they were going. When the soldiers were long gone, the children picked up sticks and began to swordfight, already dreaming of becoming soldiers.
Once past the farmland they entered a forest. The path was too small for their usual formation so they had to follow Syn in a single file line.
The forest was alive with the songs of birds and the wild deer fleeing from the armed riders. The trees grew close together, letting little sunlight in. Even though they could barely see the path, Aboriortus knew the way by heart. Syn had to make sure they didn't get too far ahead of the small group.
Once they cleared the forest, they took formation again and began their journey across the Dragonia Plains. It would be two days before they crossed the plains and reached the border.
