Espers




Espers are powerful creatures that characters can summon to aid them in battle. They take the place of the other two party members and remain in the battlefield for a minute and a half - or until the summoner or the Esper are defeated. Each Esper has a different set of skills that makes it more useful in some situations than others. Espers first appeared on Final Fantasy VI.

Espers don't appear on the license board until the party finds them and defeats them in battle. These slots appear as empty spaces until that time arises. Characters can learn any number of Espers, but a character can only summon one Esper at a time. Only one person who unlocks the Esper may command it. It requires from one to three Mist Charges (MP) to summon an Esper. Try to evenly spread out the Espers amongst the party members.


Belias, the Gigas

Belias, the Gigas Location: Tomb of Raithwall
Actions: Attack, Painflare, Hellfire

Called the Gigas for his appearance: man and monster fused together as one. Scion of darkness and guardian of the Holy Realm, made by the gods in opposition to the Transcendent Loghrif, scion of light. He is discovered within the actual storyline. He is the first Esper discovered in the game, so he is weaker than most.

Mateus, the Corrupt

Mateus, the Corrupt Location: The Stilshrine of Miriam
Actions: Attack, Cura, Flash-Freeze, Frostwave

In the course of his rule, he submitted to avarice, and the darkness took his heart, transforming him until he was both evil and corrupt. Scion of darkness ruling and protecting those who live in the underworld, in opposition to Lahabrea, abyssal Celbrant and scion of light. Mateus is also encountered during the main storyline. He is very useful when facing creatures that are weak against ice magick.

Shemhazai, the Whisperer

Shemhazai, the Whisperer Location: Giruvegan
Actions: Devour Soul, Soul Purge

Though she once served the gods as a guardian, when Ultima announced her rebellion, Shemhazai went to her, whispering of the gods' hidden weaknesses. She is both of horse and woman, wielding utter control over the souls that wander the underworld, in opposition to the Martyr Igeyorhm, scion of light. She joins the party as part of the game's normal storyline. She also wields an all-or-nothing attack, which some of the tougher bosses can resist.

Hashmal, Bringer of Order

Hashmal, Bringer of Order Location: The Pharos - Third Ascent
Actions: Attack, Roxxor, Gaia's Wrath

Desiring to bring order to all things, he joined with Ultima in her battle against the gods. Scion set by the gods to wield and manipulate the laws of this world, and with holy power lead mankind to order. Created in opposition to Fandaniel the Protector, scion of light. He is encountered during the game's main storyline. His earth attacks are very valuable, since earth is a common weakness among flying foes.

Famfrit, the Darkening Cloud

Famfrit, the Darkening Cloud Location: The Pharos - Third Ascent
Actions: Attack, Biny Cannonade, Tsunami

The hideous form of Famfrit, scion in opposition to Holy Queen Emmeroloth, scion of light, was anathema even to his creators. Thus, after a great battle, was he broken and sealed within armor laced with wards. He is encountered during the game's main storyline, although it occurs later in the game. He offers powerful water attacks that supplements the rather weak Water magicks available to the party.

Adrammelech, the Wroth

Adrammelech, the Wroth Location: Zertinan Caverns
Actions: Curaga, Thundara, Bio, Flash Arc, Judgment Bolt

Emperor among the scions, able to reduce to nothing aught he strikes with a single blow of his fist, created in opposition to Deudalephon the Benevolent, scion of light. His immense strength and fearsome visage drew the fiends to his side and turned him against his creators. He is found in the Athroza Quicksands section of the Zertinan Cavern. He is encountered on the "Paying for the Past" hunt.

Cuchulainn, the Impure

Cuchulainn, the Impure Location: Garamsythe Waterway
Actions: Attack, Curaja, Malaise, Blight

Scion created to rid the world of its impurities by swallowing them within himself, in opposition to Nabriales the Majestic, scion of light. The world, however, was more filled with impurity and corruption than even the gods dared to imagine. To get this Esper, your party must have completed the "lost in the Pudding" hunt to get the Sluice Gate Key. Then complete the "Waterway Haunting" side quest to adjust the water levels to get to him.

Chaos, Walker of the Wheel

Chaos, Walker of the Wheel Location: Necrohol of Nabudis
Actions: Holy, Whirlwind, Firaga, Thundaga, Bilzzaga, Scourge, Darkga, Tornado

Deity of the sacred crystals fashioned by the gods at the time of the Great Making. Created in opposition to Miltron the Chastiser, scion of light. Upon entering the world of man, he was enveloped in the turmoil rampant there. Lost, he died and was reborn countless times. He is located deep within the Necrohol of nabudis. To reach him, you must complete the "Waterway Haunting" and the "Lost in the Pudding" hunts. Then you must complete the "Nabreus's Medal' side quest.

Zalera, the Death Seraph

Zalera, the Death Seraph Location: Terminus No. 7 - Barheim Passage
Actions: Holy, Shock, Kill, Condemnation

Herectic scion who wrapped the world in dark energies, seeking to take the souls of all living things unto himself. Created in opposition to Emet-Selch, Angel of Truth, and scion of light. He was originally tasked with the judging of men upon their deaths, but his soul was tainted by the curses of those who raged against the heavens. Zalera appears at the end of a long series of events that lead to the Barheim Passage. Finish all of these hunts and side quests then revist the Barheim Passage to face this Esper.

Zeromus, the Condemner

Created in opposition to Knight Star Pashtarot, scion of light. he turns his deep, abiding hatred for those who break the law into living darkness. Therein to plunge the guilty in fell judgment. To find Zeromus, you must collect the Stone of the Condemner from the Mt. Bur-Omisace region after the area is attacked. You then use thi sstone in the Stilshrine of Miriam to reach the boss.

Exodus, the Judge-Sal

Exodus, the Judge-Sal Location: Mosphoran Highwaste
Actions: Comet, Meteor

Most ancient of the scions, created in opposition to Halmarut, the Arbiter, and scion of light. Tasked with keeping watch over the world, with the authority to judge the value of all things. As he watched, unseen, unknown, his attachment to the world faded until it was nothing. You can find Exodus in the Mosphoran Highwaste once the waters begin to flow at the Babbling Vale. Solve the floatweed puzzle to reach the peak where Exodus awaits.

Ultima, the High Seraph Location: Giruvegan

Masterpiece among the scions created by the gods, and mastermind of the plot to rise against them. Prior to her betrayal, she was tasked with guiding souls to heaven and aiding their reincarnation. Since her fall, her heart is without light, and impossible to know. Ultima is hidden deep within the heart of Giruvegan's Great Crystal. Carefully navigate the way Stones to reach her lair.

Zodiark, Keeper of Precepts

Zodiark, Keeper of Precepts Location: Henne Mines
Actions: Flare, Scathe, Banish Ray, Final Eclipse

Strongest of the scions created by the gods, they feared his growth, and so kept him a child. So indomitable in his strength that all things are by him twisted and pressed into oblivion. He alone fashions the laws governing all things. Talk to the Geomancer Yugelu in Jahara after the party acquires at least 10 Espers. Yugelu then unlocks the path within the Henne Mines that leads to Zodiark.
