FF13 Logo Early Discussions on Final Fantasy XIII-2

Final Fantasy XIII creators Yoshinori Kitase (Producer) and Motomu Toriyama (Director, Writer) have stated that they would be interested in doing a direct sequel to FFXIII, but before they start thinking of FFXIII-2, they want to see how well the game does in the West first, which seems to be doing fairly well since Square-Enix shipped 5 million copies.

With much talk about how 'linear' Final Fantasy XIII appears to be - looks like there are still challenging hunting missions that even producer (Kitase) had a hard time completing. According to the lead Battle Planner, Daisuke Inoue, these side quests were created with 4 rules.

FF13 Logo 1st U.S. Final Fantasy XIII Commercial Aired

Most of us have probably seen clips of this before, but during the NBA All-Star Celebrity game (sponsored by FFXIII), ESPN aired the 1st U.S. commercial for the game. Quick 30 second slot backed with Leona Lewis doing the theme song, I'm sure it reached a lot of viewers.

FF13 Logo FFXIII to Sponsor NBA All-Star Celebrity Game?!

When I first saw this news release I had to rub my eyes a few times. Although this is great exposure for the Final Fantasy series, I find it a rather odd venue to sponsor. Whoever is in charge of marketing for Square-Enix NA, must really want to reach out to new demographics - as sports sponsorship isn't typically an interest to RPG game developers.

FF13 Logo FFXIII May Be Last Traditional Game of Series

Not sure how real this is, but definitely will get long-time FF fans speculating. I know that there have been some mixed reviews in Japan regarding FFXIII's loyalty to some of the traditional elements that helped make the franchise what it is today. Regardless, SE continues to think of new, innovative ways to change each new installment to the 'core-series'.

The remake will look much similar to FFIII and IV for the DS with character designs by Gen Kobayashi of The World Ends With You. Expect to see this game available in the US later in 2009.
